Jamie Stewart - Head Chef
For more than 24 years, Head Chef Jamie has been honing his craft in kitchens across the region, building reputation for creating dishes that let quality ingredients shine. His culinary journey began at the age of 16, training at the local Golden Bowl Chinese Restaurant before gaining experience across a variety of kitchens throughout Orange.
Influenced by both family and industry icons, Jamie credits his uncle - a Sydney based restaurateur trained in Britain, as one of his greatest mentors. Jamie also admires professional chef Jamie Oliver, and his passion for making great food and changing the way people view it.
At The Barrel Restaurant, Jamie's approach centres on showcasing the exceptional produce that Orange is known for. From locally sourced meats, such as "Trunkey Creek Pork" and artisan cheeses from "Second Mouse Cheese" to the region's acclaimed cool-climate wines, every menu is designed to celebrate the flavours and character of Central West NSW.
His favourite dish is the Lamp Rump, which accurately reflects his chef mindset - simple, refined, and built around outstanding local ingredients.
